High Sierra Freewheel Wheeled Book Bag

I bought this because I am now both a returning student and a teacher and, between books, laptop, and peripherals, carrying a backpack was really a chore. The High Sierra has met my needs in several ways; the main compartment has room for a number of thick books, the laptop compartment is well padded, the compartment in front of the main compartment is capable of housing an external DVD drive, a large-ish audio interface, the laptop's klunky AC adapter, and a few thumb drives. Then there's another pocket in front of that, and a side pocket that holds my student ID and a small voice recorder. Everything!

I care almost not at all about aesthetics, but it don't see the marks of an ugly stick anywhere on it.

It rolls well and seems well-built, though that's impossible to really know until I've been using it for longer than the two or three months I've had it so far.

Still, it was precisely what I was looking for, I am entirely satisfied, and I recommend this bag. (Posted on 2/26/11)

very good backpack. I am a college student who recently got back surgery over winter break. i needed a backpack on wheels so that i wouldnt have to carry the weight of my books and laptop. I really like this backpack because the handle bar is very sturdy and long enough that i am not twisting to pull it (i am 5'5"). I also love that there is a padded area for my laptop, so i didnt have to buy a case as well. another nice feature is that there are attachable straps, so on those light days that you only need a couple books, you can use that feature which is very nice. the wheels are very good too. i have been pulling the bag through ice and snow and it holds up very well. the fabric is also good- my books havent gotten wet from ice or snow (i live in wisconsin). very useful bag at a rocking price.....very spacious and well designed storage compartment...also it is lightweight so you can carry off your shoulders as well....nice wheels (negligible noise while moving)

I bought this bag for nursing school because the books were getting too heavy especially after a csection. I bought this bag because of the positive reviews. So far it's been working for me. I have been using it for a little over a month and it hasn't shown any wear and tear yet. I drag it up and down cement stairs when I have class and it's still holding up. The bag itself is pretty roomy. I can fit about 3 four inch (in thickness) nursing books inside! We'll see how long it holds up. I do wish it sat a little higher off the ground but what can you do. After reading the other reviews, I'm almost embarrassed to admit I bought this bag for myself for college. It has plenty of space to carry the large textbooks needed for these college classes. The only downside I have found is that you need to almost completely unzip the main compartment in order to remove a book if you are carrying a laptop. The other compartments are wonderful for organization. The other real plus is the side pocket that holds a beverage. In my old bag, this pocket was rather small and I had bottles and cans of pop fall out of it. The pocket on this bag is larger and has a nice, strong elastic top that holds contents securely. Having already bought 2 other backpacks for my daughter from other places and other manufacturers, I have to say this is the best one we've ever chosen. My 11-year-old daughter LOVES it, and says the interior compartments make her feel really organized - much better than any other backpack she's had. We bought this backpack following a purchase at target that didn't last 2 weeks. This is large, heavy duty bag which works great for my 4th grader. It is very high quality and we are thrilled with it's durability. It was tough to spend over $25 for a backpack but this will last us for several years and our daughter loves it! It is sturdy yet light enough. My 9 year old daughter loves it. it is large enough to fit huge binders.
When loaded, balance is perfect unlike many other wheeled backpacks.

I am a Full Time college student and part-time A &P tutor. So, for me I needed a wheeled bag that was sturdy, strong, and could handle the Four Seasons here in the Midwest. My High Sierra bag is perfect! The laptop padded section protects my computer. The sturdy bottom panel supports all my books, while keeping my supplies dry from rain & snow. My son likes the capacity and the convenient compartments, like the key-chain spot, but he wishes the telescoping handle had two parallel bars instead of the T-configuration, because it sometimes twists when being rolled. Otherwise it's great. (Posted on 10/11/10)

We have ordered bags from a well known catalog company in the past and the zippers have quickly gone out. Even though they guarantee them, it is a hassle to send them back for replacement, etc. I ordered this bag because we needed a 'tough' bag. I am not disappointed. This bag was a perfect choice for my daughter (a college freshman), who needs to lug lots of textbooks, a laptop, notebooks, etc., around at Community College, from her car, across streets and sidewalks, and up elevators to her classrooms. It is very well constructed and very easy for her to use, rolling easily on its strong wheels. (First, she used a different rolling bag we had on hand, and it broke after 2 or 3 uses. This one looks like it will hold up very well!) It has lots of space and extra pouches for everything she needs to take. The handle folds in easily and quickly when she needs to lift the bag. The stowable backstraps are a nice feature, being available if needed but tucked out of the way when not needed.
