Dakine Factor Backpack

I wanted a medium backpack to take to work every day on the bus. I wanted a padded pocket for my laptop and room for a planner, lunch container and a book. This backpack is exactly the right size for me to handle and is roomy enought for what I carry. The glasses pocket is really useful.

I am not a student. I work and live, and study/play in NY. (Hey you never stop learning)

1. Size: You can fit a 14"/15" laptop in the main compartment. Then I'd say 2-3 inches of space for 2 to 3 books, and light clothes (like gym, or for chill nights).

This would be all (THE Maximum) I carry, for my back's sake and commuting in crowded subway trains. I do not wish to haul a load the equivalent of medical textbooks, phone books, atlas, plus a super-size laptop, and top off with contingency doodads for rain, hail, locust plague ...

2. Functions: Like its size, just the right ones I need.

The top sunglasses pocket is easy to find/stow the eye protection (lined w/soft scratch-proof fabric).

The said built-in internal laptop sleeve.

A front compartment that has organizer pockets (some lined w/scratch-proof material) and pen holders--plus slight extra space to hold extra (non-bulky item or two).

My FAVORITES though are the TWO (not just one) mesh side pockets I use for water bottle and a wet umbrella; and the kangaroo-like front pocket/pouch where I can instant stow a newspaper I'm reading on my way to work, or stuff my gloves and earmuffs there for quick access going in and out of the cold.

And the contoured shoulder straps fit well and don't slide like cheaper ones do. You can also buckle a chest strap across the two straps, backpack/hiking style, should you want that close a fit. The bag fits pretty tight and comfy against my back ending slightly above my ass. (Have you ever had a bag that slides and brush against your ass as you walk... not pleasant)

Style: It looks newer styled BUT not all out like a mech warrior kinda way, which seems the case with most newer backpacks I've seen. The colors/styles offered with this models are fun without, mostly, being LOUD and in your face. I have the "carbon" style, which is more low-key and can complement the look of a winter top coat, not a snowboard jacket. (Posted on 1/5/12)

I purchased this for my Grandson, who is entering the 7th grade. I worried that it did not expand enough to carry his books, especially since he lives in another state and I cannot actually see him with the bookbag in use. The bag is way too small. I never used it and it still has all the tags on it. I bought it for a work laptop CPU and it's tiny. I'd like to get a refund and return it. (Posted on 9/10/10)
